Don Sinetti

May 13, 2016

Self-taught artist, educator and musician. He's also an activist who helped found the Wethersfield, CT based Cetacean Society International, which aims to protect cetaceans - whales, porpoises and dolphins - around the world. His drawings have appeared in several publications including Alaska Geographic Magazine. In the 1960's coffeehouses, he was a chantey-man at Mystic Seaport Museum, as well as performing with the Finest Kind (of CT) and The Morgans. Listening to Don sing a chantey, you can believe that a good chantey-man was worth ten men on a line.

"A hefty fellow with a deft hand, a genial manner and a booming voice ..." - Carolyn Battista, THE NEW YORK TIMES

"Don Sineti has come to be regarded as the embodiment of the spirit of the whale." - Dr. Robbins Barstow, Director Emeritus, Cetacean Society International.

"With Sineti it's easy to visualize how the sea chantey was designed to help the weary seaman do his job." - Rick Green, THE HARTFORD COURANT

"A rare combination of artistic talent and impressive musical ability, along with a warmth and gift for communication, make Don Sineti's programs come alive with his knowledge and commitment to the environment." - Marshal T. Case, Vice President for Education, National Audubon Society
